Otaru Aquarium in Otaru Hokkaido, has variety of fish, marine mammals and creatures from around the world. It always attracts tourists and the locals as a popular recreation and educational facility of Otaru during the season.

This year's opening is from March 17 (Sat.) through November 25 (Sun.). Opening hours are 9:00-17:00 from March 17 to October 31, and 9:00-16:00 from November 1 to 25.

In the aquarium, marine animals show takes place several times a day. Dynamic dolphins, and adorable South American sea lions (called "Otaria") show is performed at 10:00, 11:30, 14:30 and 16:00, and penguins, seals, and sea lions show is at 10:45, 12:15, 13:45 and 15:15 from May to September.

In March, April, October and November, the show times for dolphins and South American sea lions are 10:30, 12:30, 14:30 and 16:00, and 11:15, 13:15, 15:15 for penguins, seals and sea lions respectively. (Dolphins and South American sea lions show at 16:00, and penguins, seals and sea lions show at 15:15 are not performed after November 1)

In addition to enjoying the wonderful marine creatures world, you have more pleasure by visiting this aquarium. Since the aquarium is located on the scenic hill, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the coast of Otaru. "Herring Mansion", designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Hokkaido, is also nearby. All the generation can enjoy themselves all through the day here. It is certainly worth visiting the area.

How to get to Otaru Aquarium:
Take No.11 bus for "おたる水族館" (Otaru Aquarium) from Gate No.3 of Chuo Bus Otaru Terminal.
Otaru Aquarium is the last stop. The bus is available every 20 minutes.
